Add an html signature in GMail
Much to my surprise, it’s actually rather easy to add an html signature to your email messages in GMail. The steps are as follows:
- Create your email signature, or have someone create it for you
- Make sure any images are hosted on a publicly-accessible server (in other words, you can view them in a web browser)
- Copy the signature (not the code, but the displayed text and images)
- Turn on “rich formatting” in GMail by starting a new message and clicking the “rich formatting” link
- In the upper right, click “Settings”
- Scroll down to the Signature settings area, and paste in your signature
You can view a screencast of the process here:
Keep in mind that not everyone will see your images or special formatting you apply, so be sure that your signature makes sense in their absence. Provide alternative text for your images.
