Add your listing to Google Local

20 May 09 , ,

You may have noticed Google Local search results when doing a search that includes a location, such as “web design chicago”. At the top of the results page is a small map with placemarkers for each result. Having your site listed here can be a great way to be listed at to the top of the page, and it’s easy to do:

  1. Go to www.google.com/local/add
  2. Log in with your Google ID
  3. Click “Add listing”
  4. Fill in the information—location, contact information, categories, hours, etc.
  5. You can even add a detailed description and photos
  6. If Google finds your listing you can simply “claim” it, or if not you will add it as new
  7. For verification, Google will send you a postcard or call you with a pin number you’ll need to enter.

That’s it! You can always go back in and edit your listing, and you’ll also be able to see how many times your Google Local listing has been shown.

I highly recommend anyone with a small business, especially one that is location-dependent, add their listing to Google Local.
