Favicons!
I get too much of a kick out of favicons. For whatever reason, I love coming up with them, and seeing them in the browser, and especially seeing the whole collection of them in my “Website Admin” bookmarks folder. So I thought I’d collect them all here as well. If I did your site before I was so infatuated with them, get in touch, and I’ll whip one up for you.
What the heck is a favicon?
My website's favicon in Safari's address bar
A favicon is a small (generally 16px-square) icon which appears in the address bar next to the url in a browser. If you have bookmarked a url, the favicon also generally shows up in your bookmark collections, and there it helps to quickly identify each site.
Favicon tools
There are a couple of online tools for creating favicons:
- Dynamic Drive (my favorite)
- favikon.com (use a portion of an image)
- favicon-generator.org (lets you edit pixel by pixel)
- Photoshop plugin
