Hit me with your screenshot
Screenshots can really come in handy to show someone else what you’re seeing on your monitor—maybe to show a mistake, or even to show what information to put in what form fields. Here are some instructions on how to take and send them.
Windows
For Windows users, emailing a screenshot is accomplished with the help of the “Print Screen” key on the keyboard. I found some very handy Print Screen instructions. For Windows XP and Outlook users, it is very simple:
- Press the Print Screen key (or Alt + Screen to capture only the frontmost window)
- Press Ctrl+V in an new Outlook email message
- Write the rest of your message and send it
If you are on an earlier version of Windows, you can open up a Word document and Paste (Ctrl + V) the image into it, and then send the Word document as an attachment to an email message.
Mac
- Mac users have several options in the capture phase:
- Entire screen: Command (Apple) + Shift + 3
- Specific ares: Command (Apple) + Shift + 4. Then click and drag over the area you want to capture
- A single window: Command (Apple) + Shift + 4. Then press Spacebar. Then click on the window.
- The pictures will be saved to your desktop, from where they can be dragged into a new email message if you use Mail, or otherwise attached if you use GMail or any other email program.
