Make it Tiny!

28 May 2008

Sometimes you want to post an enormous URL, like when you’re linking to directions on Google Maps for example. If you don’t feel like coming up with pertinent keywords to serve as the link text, a long url can really break your layout, especially in email newsletters and the like, where html tables may form its basis. This is because urls never break across lines, so they will either rudely protrude out of the container, or even worse stretch their containing element.

TinyURL to the rescue! Just type in your unwieldy url, and you will be given something like this: http://tinyurl.com/5kl949.
