Review of online forms and surveys services
Updated 4/21/10 I recently tried out a new service called Formstack, and I think it takes the cake. Read my review of Formstack. I’ll be further updating this post with the new info as well…
Updated 12/4/09 New sh*t has come to light. Survs.com has gone from beta to live since I first wrote this, so I’ve updated as necessary. I’ve also added Wufoo.com, another full-featured option.
I’ve recently tried out three four five different web apps for creating online surveys and forms:
Summary: price, pros and cons
| SurveyMonkey | Survs | Icebrrg | Wufoo |
|---|---|---|---|
| Free: 10 Questions, 100 reponses/survey, unlimited surveys | Free: 10 Questions, 200 reponses/survey, unlimited surveys | Free: 10 questions, 200 responses/mo, 3 forms | Free: 10 questions, 100 responses/mo, 3 forms |
| Cheapest paid plan: $19.95/mo, 1000 reponses/mo | Cheapest paid plan: $19/mo, 2000 reponses/mo | Cheapest paid plan: $9/mo, 500 responses/mo | Cheapest paid plan: $9.95/mo, 500 responses/mo |
| File upload: No | File upload: No | File upload: Yes | File upload: Yes |
| Pros: Most full-featured | Pros: Lovely interface, “distribution channels” setup | Pros: File upload question type | Pros: Many. Nice interface, full-featured, file upload |
| Cons: a little ugly | Cons: No save and return? | Cons: No “matrix” question type, no “other” options, no survey logic | Cons: No save and return |
Conclusion
Icebrrg really falls far behind the other options here, with a sometimes clunky, jumpy interface and a lack of certain common types of form questions. SurveyMonkey is well-established, and has a lot of features, but the user interface is a ugly and a little old-fasioned. It looks like Survs is shaping up to be a great service, with a clean and easy-to-use interface, collaborative survey building, and a cool “distribution channel” setup. I think for surveys specifically, not just online forms in general, this is the service to use. Wufoo might be my service of choice for online forms if only they allowed a user to save responses and return later. However, at the moment, Formstack has all the features you want, an intuitive and attractive interface to boot.
