Tips on a Successful Facebook Page

30 January 10 ,

I’ve been delving in to Facebook Pages today, and gathered some more experience and information about creating them.

First and foremost, don’t use the Nora Brown Design Facebook Page, in its current (01/29/2010) incarnation anyway, as a model. I haven’t updated it since I created it, or promoted it in any way. (Do become a fan though!)

Choose a Good Profile Image

It may be appropriate to use your business logo, a photo of your location, a portrait, or something more creative

Update Frequently

This is something that applies to websites, blogs, Twitter accounts, and Facebook Pages alike. Luckily, you don’t always have to come up with something new to say on every platform. There are several ways to post to both Twitter and Facebook, for example.

Respond to Fans

If your fans or customers are taking the time to leave comments (positive or negative), you should respond. This way, you can also influence the tone of the discussion.

Control Where Potential New Fans Land

This helpful post about Facebook Pages included this tip. You can control what people who’ve yet to become fans see when they land on your page. Under Wall Settings, click Edit. Where it says “Default Landing Tab for Everyone Else”, select something other than your wall. If you have some nice images, select Photos. If you just want to give people the facts right away, select Info.

Add Photos and Videos

People like looking at images and watching videos, so post photos and videos if you have them. Now, why the heck Facebook requires me to download a plugin to upload a few photos I have no idea, but they do.

Add Relevant Applications

Okay, now this one is easier said than done, and I think it deserves its own post. More soon!
